Discovering Beads of Culture

This exciting project is designed to uncover practitioners of traditional cultural beading skills of the many cultural groups who live within the Goulbourn Valley Region. Women and men from these communities will come together in a series of hands on workshops to share, rediscover and reinterpret traditional bead making, sewing, threading and use. Participation will be facilitated by experienced community artist, Angie Russi who will guide the workshops.

This project will start with the bead traditions of local Aboriginal people and be led by well-known artist, Eva Ponting and then expand into other cultures where we will find skilled practitioners of their craft. The outcome will be a large exhibition at Kaiela Arts in 2018 that will express diverse cultures coming together in a stunningly beautiful and contemporary installation.
