Winyarr’s Program 2023

July 24th – October 9th 2023

A series of creative workshops for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women living on Yorta Yorta Country.

Each Monday, 5.30pm – 8.30pm in the Kaiela Arts Studio.

Stage 1: Creating and Expressing – Visual Arts (4 sessions: 24 July – 14 Aug)
This workshop series will give Indigenous women the opportunity to create and express creativity through painting, lino printing and block printing techniques. Painting will give women skills to create their own canvases and master pieces. Lino printing is a great skill to have and women can make a series of small artworks for exhibition. Block printing will teach women skills to create their own designs, to be printed onto fabric and sewn into tote bags, aprons and more. Catering provided. Click Here to register.

Stage 2: Embracing and Reviving our culture – Weaving Circle (4 sessions: 21 Aug – 11 Sept)
Women will embrace traditional and contemporary weaving practices learning how to create earrings, baskets, wall hangings and baskets which they can sell or display at Kaiela Arts gallery. The weaving workshops will revive our practice through collecting and maintaining the natural materials the way our people used to. We will learn the same weaving stitch that our family has passed down to us and create amazing things using natural and dyed raffia with colours of our choice. Catering provided. Click Here to register.

Stage 3: Connecting and Developing – Sewing group (4 sessions: 18 Sept – 9 Oct)
Women will learn with an Elder how to use patterns and sew tote bags, aprons, cushion covers and more. This is an opportunity for women to connect and develop their skills and creating practical and colourful items that feature artworks and designs. Catering provided. Click Here to register.
