Garngan, walanbang miimi – very strong sister
This piece is about what it feels like to be a woman today, especially an Aboriginal woman trying to find her place, stay strong & keep moving forward. The pink and black ripples show how life never stays still. We’re always growing & pushing through things people don’t always see. Every line is another part of our story all the lessons, the pain, the healing & the pride. The yellow circles represent the hard moments we face the struggles that hit deep the things we carry quietly. Being a young Aboriginal woman means walking through a world that can be heavy and sometimes unfair, but still finding a way to rise above it. Those yellow circles stand out because no matter how tough it gets, we always push through. All the pink lines overlapping and connecting are the most important part they show how we never do this alone. Aboriginal women don’t survive off individual strength we survive because we have each other. Our mums, our sisters, our aunties, our cousins, our whole mob they keep us standing. Those lines are the way we lean on each other, yarn with each other, cry with each other, and lift each other back up when we fall. This artwork is my reminder that even with the challenges we are strong because we walk together. Our stories connect our strength connects and together, we grow into the women we’re meant to be.
