Hello everyone in the Artistsphere! My name is Suzanne Atkinson. I am married to Andrew of 26 years and we have nine beautiful children and three grandchildren. I am a Yorta Yorta/Wamba Wamba/Baraparapa woman from Mooroopna. I would like to share with you a little about myself and the leading to my exhibition – Due to family commitments I chose to pursue an Art career later in life, by studying at Deakin University – Bachelor of Contemporary Arts/Visual Arts in 2015. After completing my degree, I remained idle for a year continuing my procrastinating stance. I could honestly say that in that time I had only completed one painting and that was on a size A4 watercolour sheet of paper. The mediums I use range from painting, wood burning, weaving, ceramics to jewellery making and poetry.
Although I obtained a Bachelor Degree for art on paper, I believe I became an artist when I found the passion for it last year. After becoming an Artist member with Kaiela Arts, I was introduced to a weaving and ceramic workshop. This was my calling, considering that I have never woven before and thought it was a job for “old people”. Being a novice in this field of art, I have found this easier to be more creative. The works that you will expect will range from woven baskets, jewellery, vases, placemats and coasters, landscape and portrait paintings, ceramics and poetry.
