Auntie Girl is a project inspired by the 2018 NAIDOC theme Because of Her we Can. Certificate 111 Visual Arts Students from The centre for Koorie Education GOTAFE have been building the Auntie Girl sculpture throughout tem two as a collaboration using traditional weaving techniques, ceramic, recycled materials and natural fibres.

Auntie Girl is a dedication to all Women, rising from a strong foundation like the trunk of a tree and colourfully adorned with all the hues of colour experience by a woman throughout life..

The students, many of whom are also Kaiela Arts artists would like to invite the community to celebrate the unveiling of Auntie Girl on Wednesday 18 July. During this celebration invitees are welcome to participate with the students in a weaving workshop to complete Auntie Girl.
