About the Artist

Belinda Briggs

Belinda Briggs is a proud Yorta Yorta and Wemba Wemba woman living and working on Dungala Kaiela (Murray–Goulburn) Country in northern Victoria. A respected writer, curator and cultural leader, Belinda recently concluded a decade at Shepparton Art Museum, where she curated significant exhibitions including Lin Onus: The Land Within, the Indigenous Ceramic Art Award, and more recently co-curated Nyini Woka (My Place).

Today, Belinda has turned her focus towards advancing Treaty across the region, working to strengthen First Peoples' self-determination and ensure the voices, rights and aspirations of Yorta Yorta people continue to shape the future. Her leadership is grounded in generations of cultural knowledge, advocacy, and community responsibility.

Alongside this work, Belinda continues in her role with the Kaiela Institute as Nanyak Adviser – Strategy and Communications, supporting the integration of the Nanyak principles that honour the histories, relationships and enduring cultural authority of Yorta Yorta Ancestors, Elders, and families for future generations. She is deeply committed to her community through her longstanding involvement with the Rumbalara Football Netball Club and as Vice President of Kaiela Arts.

Belinda's artistic practice is intrinsically connected to this work. Her paintings and photography are powerful expressions of Yorta Yorta sovereignty, identity and cultural continuity, reflecting the enduring strength of her people and the ongoing responsibility to care for Country, uphold truth and carry forward the stories that have always been here.
