Bush Fire Tree
Each ceramic artwork and product at Kaiela Arts is hand-moulded by our artists using a variety of clay, including Buff Raku Trachyte, White Raku, Terracotta, Porcelain, and river clay gathered from the banks and wetlands on Yorta Yorta Country. Various glazes are also utilised by our artists, and they often use the sgraffito technique, carving into the clay’s surface to reveal layered stories of Country, memory, and cultural knowledge.
This practice is supported through our dedicated ceramics program, led by esteemed ceramicist Kaye Poulton. With guidance and mentorship, our artists have embraced the medium of clay as a vessel of self-determination and cultural renewal. Through clay and fire, our artists continue to inscribe stories that honour the past while shaping a future that is both enduring and evolving. This program strengthens cultural practice, creates employment, and provides new creative pathways for our artists.
By purchasing a Kaiela Arts ceramic piece, you are directly supporting the continuation of these stories and the livelihoods of our artists and their families.
