June Workshops at Kaiela Arts

By Mya Falla, Marketing & Engagement Assistant

Recently Kaiela Arts held two Yorta Yorta Yedabila Ceramics Workshops with our talented Yorta Yorta ceramicist Jack Anselmi. The clay workshops are a hands-on way to engage with culture, Country, and the continuation of Yorta Yorta knowledge through native animals.

The first workshop was held on 16 June with Monash University ‘s William Cooper Institute. Staff and students were guided step by step to make their own ceramic sculpture of a native animal while learning about its cultural significance and connection to the Barmah wetlands and Biyula (River Red Gum) Forest.

University of Melbourne’s – Victorian Hub Drought & Innovation group with guests from Canada also enjoyed a ceramics workshop with Jack. Held on 23 June, participants yarned with Jack about his journey as a ceramicist and woodwork artist whilst learning how to create a ceramic masterpiece of their own.
