Galnyatj Culture and Education Coordinator – applications now open

Kaiela Arts in Shepparton is seeking applications from local Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people for a part time Galnyatj Culture and Education Coordinator.

  • $50,000 – 60,000 per annum pro rata (depending on experience and qualifications) plus superannuation
  • 15.2 hrs p/w, 12 months fixed term commencing in early January 2023
  • This position is an Identified Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander position only in line with ‘special measures’ under the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 Section 12 example 1

The Galnyatj Culture and Education Coordinator will work collaboratively with Kaiela Arts staff, local Aboriginal artists, and education and community partners, to deliver a 12 month culture and education program for primary and secondary school students and teachers, drawing on Aboriginal learning techniques, cultural arts, and local stories, to build understanding of the value of Aboriginal perspectives in education. The position will be based at Kaiela Arts with program activities taking place at our art centre in Shepparton and with some activities taking place off site at other local education and arts facilities.

The Galnyatj Culture and Education Coordinator will coordinate all aspects of the Galnyatj culture and education program including:

  • developing education resources such as lesson plans, templates, digital content
  • coordinating program streams and hosting school groups at Kaiela Arts
  • liaising with local schools to book and schedule incursions and artist residencies
  • coordinating and promoting teacher information sessions
  • preparing studio space for incursions and other activities
  • developing and distributing promotional materials
  • recruiting, liaising with and supervising artists and contractors
  • coordinating evaluation, documentation and reporting to funding bodies
