Elders Cultural Arts Program Celebration

News

On 26th August, Kaiela Arts and the Rumbalara Elders Facility celebrated the Elders Arts Program with an end of year showcase. Artworks made by the Elders over the last 12 months were showcased for Elders, family, friends and staff to enjoy.

The Muir’s- Glenys Briggs and Ian Muir were special guests at the event, performing country songs that had elders and community members singing along to old favourites and enjoying new tunes. Guests were treated with a surprise performance from the Muir’s together with one of our Kaiela Arts team members and Yorta Yorta language expert Ebony Joachim with a Yorta Yorta song that everyone loved.

It was a great afternoon shared to reflect, connect and be, finished with a shared lunch.

The program is part of the ongoing partnership between Rumbalara Elders Facility and Kaiela Arts and provides Elders with the chance to be creative, come together to share memories and be supported in different art mediums. The last 12 months have been very busy for Elders, staff and facilitators with great times shared with one another and enjoyable for all involved.

The year also had its share of sad times with some of our Elders passing away. We also made some adjustments to the work in the workshop to make it possible for Elders with increasing mobility difficulties.

Watching what the Elders have achieved in the program by doing, participating and sharing with one another has been so nice. It is evident the importance of this program.

I’m very appreciative of all who have played a part and supported the program big or small to help make it what it was. Thank you to the facilitators and Kaiela Arts artists and staff members and the staff at Rumbalara Elders Facility.
